Topic 1: Toolbars
Display Toolbars Page 1

Objectives Associated with this Activity

  • 1.1 Participants will display Toolbars of their choice.

Start Microsoft Word:
1. Click on Start
2. Drag up to Programs
3. Drag over to Microsoft Word

Toolbar listVisual icons will help student perform common commands such as Cut, Copy and Paste. When first starting with Microsoft Word it is best to have the Standard, Format, Drawing and Picture toolbars showing and in an easily accessible location.

Display toolbars – Click on the View menu and select  Toolbars. Click on the desired toolbars to display them. Suggestion: Display the Format, Standard, Drawing and Picture toolbars. (Alternative: right click on an empty location on the top toolbar and choose the desired toolbars).

In versions 2000 and later thhe Standard and Format toolbars come combined on one row. Click on the View menu and select the Toolbars options
2. Click on Customize at the end of the list.
3. Click on the Options tab and check or uncheck (depending on version) the line referring to Standard and Format on two rows.
4. Then click on the close button located on the lower right hand side of the window.

  •  * The Macintosh version, the toolbars default to two lines

Move the toolbars to the preferred area by placing your cursor on the title bar(the top of the window) of the window and dragging it to the desired location. (Suggestion: Standard & Formatting toolbar on top, Drawing toolbar on the bottom, and Picture toolbar on the right side).
