The Language bar is a tool you can use for handwriting recognition, voice recognition or text to speech

Office 2000 and XP offers speech and Handwriting recognition as well as speaks the text. Right-click the language indicator button in the status area on the Microsoft Windows taskbar, and then select Show the Language bar. You will see an EN icon in the 2000 version. In XP if you do not see the Language bar

  1. Open Regional and Language Options in Control Panel.
  2. On the Languages tab, under Text services and input languages, click Details.
  3. Under Preferences, click Language Bar.
  4. Select the Show the Language bar on the desktop check box.

If you accidentally close the language bar or you do not see the EN icon click on the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Double-click Text Services and click Language Bar. Select the Show the Language bar on the desktop check box. Click OK twice.
