Introduction

This course will provide participants with an overview of phonological awareness. Topics will include: rhyme, alliteration, awareness of words in sentences, and syllable awareness. Simple activities will be given for each topic that parents can use at home to help strengthen their child's skills in each area.

This course on Phonological Awareness will provide parents with a basic knowledge of phonological awareness including pre-reading skills and some simple strategies they can do with their child at home to help improve this important area of reading. Participants will complete a follow-up activity using two of the strategies they have learned in the course.

This course is intended for parents who have children in grades K-4. It would also be appropriate for parents who have middle school students who are struggling with reading.
